Meet Mary Pat!

Mary Pat has been passionate about baking since she was a child. Her love for sweets and Italian cuisine inspired her to create Desserts by Alighieri in the Twin Cities, where she developed her signature tiramisu recipe. As tastes evolved, she introduced new and exciting flavors, making her tiramisu a local favorite in Minneapolis and beyond.

Family History

Family History

Mary Pat's husband, David, is the Italian inspiration behind Desserts by Alighieri. The company name pays homage to his rich Italian heritage and family name. Jennie Alighieri, David's grandmother, came from a small town in Sicily, while his grandfather, Frank Alighieri, immigrated from Trapani, Sicily. Jennie and Frank met in the United States, married, and started their family, all while maintaining their traditional Italian cooking and baking styles. They settled in the Bush neighborhood of Madison, also known as Little Italy of Wisconsin, bringing a piece of Sicily to their new home.

Today, Mary Pat and her family carry on Jenny and Frank's legacy, guided by the values they instilled. Family is at the core of everything we do, from sourcing quality ingredients to the care we put into each dessert. As a female-owned small business, we take pride in offering an Italian-inspired experience with every handcrafted tiramisu, celebrating the joy of family and great food.
